Dianne Masut, owner of Bethlehem Matte, tells us more about their business:
Bethlehem Matte started in 1995, Dianne has been with them for twenty years. They have been in the current building for the past ten years. Dianne and her husband bought the building, which was a triangular wooden structure. They liked the location and built the current building with sandstone from Lesotho. The blocks are cut, not chipped like the very old buildings. They wanted to bring in the sandstone effect, which is so much a feature of our area.
They specialise in flooring, not only carpets, but also laminates and vinyls, which is a plastic product. They sell more of these because they are warm and last a long time.
They also specialise in undercarpet heating, not be confused with undertile heating which takes longer to warm up.
Oil heaters kept on right through winter is not the best option any longer. Underfloor heating is far better. It can be switched on when the sun sets. Vinyl flooring is warmer than tiles and it cleans easily because it is not wood, but plastic.
When they install carpets, they do it with warm-ups already installed. In this way you don’t have heaters that you can fall over. You have the lovely heat between the underfelt and the carpet.
Regarding social media, they are now big on Facebook - they want people to get to know the best products. A big seller is a small piece of carpet for a dog, with heating installed. It has a five year warranty, it can be rolled up. It is not sold by regular shops, only flooring companies have selling rights.
The social media strategy they use the most currently is their Facebook page, as described above. It is very necessary in this age of digital marketing. Bethlehem also has strong newspapers, so they have an advertising presence there. They are, of course, part of ChangeNetSA and the Poverty Police, where they have some more exposure. Bethlehem also has a strong radio station.
